The shelter volunteers of Project Hope for the Homeless support staff and help accommodate up to 50 shelter guests. We run two shelter programs on Freedom Road in Painesville Twp.: one for families & one for adults. Volunteers undergo online screening and training before they start. They always work in teams with other volunteers and/or staff and are never left alone. There are no minimum or maximum service requirements; volunteers can serve at their convenience.

ADULT SHELTER

·        5:30-7am, seven days a week

Volunteers help prepare shelter guests for a new day of hope by distributing lunches, cleaning up after a light breakfast, and assisting staff in monitoring guests as they leave. Morning volunteers work in teams of 2 alongside 2-3 staff members.

·        7-11pm, seven days a week

Arrive at 6:45 pm to prepare the site for guest arrival. Volunteers serve dinner to adult shelter guests, and are able to eat dinner with staff and guests. After dinner, volunteers clean up the service area, store leftovers, and wash serving dishes. Light chores, packing lunches, and providing informal support to staff and guests may also be part of the evening service. Evening volunteers work in teams of 2 or 3 alongside three staff members. The shift usually ends before 10:30pm.

FAMILY SHELTER

·        Saturday 2-5pm, 5-7pm (Oct-May)

·        Sunday 2-5pm, 5-7pm
