Volunteer: Turn Markers into Energy - Crayola ColorcycleAn amazing program devised to repurpose used markers rather than sending them to landfills. The ColorCycle program has repurposed more than 70 tons of expended markers in the United States and Canada since 2013. It uses the most advanced plastic conversation technologies available today to make wax compounds for asphalt and roofing shingles as well as generate electricity that can be used to heat homes, cook food, and power vehicles. Lakeland's Project SEARCH students placed collection boxes all over campus and will champion this project. Please support our efforts by collecting used markers and drop them in the collection boxes. Volunteer: Lakeland's Project SEARCH - Pop/Pull Tab Collection Site for Ronald McDonald House
Pull Tab Program at Lakeland - Ongoing Collection by Lakeland's Project SEARCH Student Interns
Containers can be found all over Lakeland - Look for them in the Athletic Fitness Center, Breakers Cafeteria, PT Faculty Offices, FT Faculty Offices, if you wish to donate pull tabs and cannot locate a container call: Mary Brown @ 440.525.7824
In 2017, we helped Ronald McDonald House collect more than 15,500 pounds of aluminum tabs, generating more than $6,975 in recycling revenue.
How does it work? We collect aluminum pull tabs from any container (soda pop, soup, pet food, etc.) and work with a local recycler to turn those tabs into money for the Ronald McDonald House Family Fund. This fund helps support the families that stay at RMH by providing meals and items for families, assistance in emergencies, and giving families special moments – like small gifts for children if they have a birthday while at the House. Why do you only collect the tab? How much do you receive for the tabs? After the tabs are collected, our local recycler picks up the tabs and brings them to their processing facility, where they are weighed to determine their value (values can vary significantly). The recycling center then sends RMH a check for the total value.
